I AM is a socially engaged project by the Sculpture students at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Folks we meet along the way are asked to fill in the blank: I AM A _________, on the front of cards we distribute.   We take their photo with the card and post it here. The project is inspired by past civil rights protest signage, specifically the iconic “I AM A MAN” signs. The project seeks to ask the question, “What constitutes identity today?”, and illuminate its multiplicities.
